Carmelo Anthony Eyeing Trade To New York Knicks Or Chicago Bulls
Video After The Jump Carmelo Anthony's wish list starts with the New York Knicks, but that's not the only trade destination he's targeting. Sources briefed on the state of Anthony's ongoing push to be dealt by the Denver Nuggets told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Chicago Bulls are a firm 1A on his list. This is partly attributed to the fact that the Bulls are much closer to assembling the sort of package Denver would want in return for its franchise player than the Knicks. Over the last 72 hours, sources said, Anthony's representatives -- headed by agent Leon Rose -- have been ramping up the pressure on the Nuggets to complete a deal with the Knicks or the Bulls before training camps open leaguewide next week. Sources say that Denver officials, however, are not inclined to rush into anything. ESPN.com reported Sunday night that the Nuggets, in recent days, have been telling interested teams for the first time that they are willing to field offers for Anthony after resisting such inquiries for weeks. But even as the Nuggets have opted to see what sort of haul can be had for their high-scoring forward, there remains strong sentiment within the organization to slow the process down in hopes of mounting one last campaign to win back Anthony's support. The Nuggets, sources said, are clinging to the hope that Anthony might reconsider his trade-me stance once he starts hearing some Denver-friendly voices upon reporting to camp after weeks of isolation from the organization. Anthony will be greeted by the likes of head coach George Karl and trusted teammate Chauncey Billups trying to convince the 26-year-old that his current team is not far away from a return to contention in the Western Conference and that the foundation of the group that reached the West finals in 2009 should not be scrapped. Yet sources say that the message from Anthony's camp to the Nuggets has stayed consistent: New York and Chicago are the preferred landing spots, with New Jersey and Houston also still in the conversation. The Nets remain a viable option because of their planned move to Brooklyn and because the Nets have what several rival executives believe to be the deepest cache of assets to satisfy Denver's trade demands in its worst-case scenario. Though the Rockets are the fourth known team in the Anthony sweepstakes, multiple sources close to the situation insisted Friday that Houston is not making guard Kevin Martin part of the discussions. The Nuggets, sources maintain, would expect a combination of expiring contracts, future first-round draft picks and at least one marketable young talent if they ultimately concede that Anthony must be traded between now and the February trading deadline. The Nuggets have offered Anthony, who can become a free agent next July, a three-year extension worth $65 million. ESPN.com reported Monday that the Nets are widely regarded in NBA front-office circles as the frontrunner for Anthony. New Jersey is reportedly willing to package No. 3 overall pick Derrick Favors with the expiring contracts of Troy Murphy and Kris Humphries and at least one future first-rounder. It's believed that the Nets, though, would insist on Anthony agreeing to a contract extension as part of the trade -- as Kevin Garnett did when Minnesota sent him to Boston in the summer of 2007 -- before they agree to surrender assets such as Favors and draft picks. The Bulls could theoretically trump any New Jersey offer if they were willing to include center Joakim Noah as part of a deal for Anthony. Sources with knowledge of Chicago's thinking, however, have maintained for days that the Bulls are strongly against the inclusion of Noah, revealing instead that Chicago has offered a package featuring Luol Deng, Taj Gibson and one future first-rounder. Playing alongside former Team USA teammate Amare Stoudemire in New York is thought to hold the greatest appeal to Anthony, something Stoudemire openly discussed earlier in the summer. The Knicks, though, simply lack the draft picks to sweeten a package that sources say would be centered around Eddy Curry's expiring contract and either Danilo Gallinari or Anthony Randolph -- but not both of those young players. The Knicks, Bulls and Nets all stand to benefit from Denver's determination to send Anthony out of the Western Conference if it decides there is no alternative apart from trading him, but sources close to the process note that a third team would almost certainly have to be recruited to help facilitate a deal. Reports have persisted for weeks that Anthony, wielding the hammer of his potential free agency in the wake of the defections of LeBron James and Chris Bosh to Miami, wants out. ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported Aug. 16 that it was "a matter of when, not if, Anthony and the Nuggets will go their separate ways." But Anthony has not made any such declarations publicly, announcing Tuesday night via his Twitter feed: "Everyone has [their] own opinion. It's funny. It cracks me up." Yet Anthony did add in a follow-up tweet: "When I know something ... you guys will know something." “I hear Coach (Glen) Mills has been building a grass hill close to our track at UWI — I’m not looking forward to that,” he said. The star athlete was forced to pull out of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League meetings in Brussels and Zurich in August and called an early end to his season after suffering a back injury. “As the track season winds down I look back on 2010 as not my best year, but it was a good year for many other athletes,” Bolt said. “From the start of the year I stated that with no major championships I was going to take it easier, but unfortunately, injuries caused me more disruption than planned. I had to miss the Diamond League meetings in Zurich and Brussels but have been watching my friends doing well,” he added. Among those are training partner Jermaine Gonzales who established a new Jamaican 400-metre record and the second fastest time in the event (44.40) earlier this season. Gonzales also finished second in the Diamond League standings. Fellow Racers Track Club sprinter Yohan Blake also set a new personal best in the men’s 100 metres (9.89) and 200m (19.78), while Mario Forsythe broke the 10-second barrier after posting 9.95 seconds in Rieti, Italy. Incidentally, another Jamaican, Nesta Carter, who is part of the MVP Track Club, also set a new personal best (9.78) — his third of the season at the same meet in Rieti. “We’ve seen this coming in training for two years and for him to finally do it in a race was great,” Bolt said of Blake’s achievement. Bolt was recently in the United Kingdom promoting his new book, Usain Bolt, 9.58 My Story, which was launched on September 2. “9.58 is Usain Bolt’s story so far, in his own words, beautifully illustrated with dozens of specially commissioned photographs. It’s about a skinny kid from the parish of Trelawny, where they harvest the best yams in the world. “It’s about growing up playing cricket and football in the warm Jamaican sun, then discovering that he could run fast, very fast. It’s about family, friends and the laid-back Jamaican culture,” the athlete explained. “… It’s about what makes him (me) tick, where he gets his motivation and where he takes his inspiration. It’s about the highs and the lows, the dedication and sacrifices required to get to the top. “It’s about fast food, partying, dancehall music, fast cars and that ‘Lightning Bolt’ pose. It’s about radiating sport’s biggest smile. This is the story of the fastest man on the planet,” he added. Bolt is in Australia this week doing promotions for his sponsors Gatorade and Puma. “Asafa Powell was there a few years ago and told me how nice the country was and it’s somewhere I always wanted to go,” he said. Meanwhile, the lanky sprinter hopes to be back and fully fit as he prepares for two important years in track and field. “2011 and 2012 are very important championship years and I hope to be back fully fit and healthy,” he said.

Video After The Jump Floyd Mayweather Jr has issued an apology for his rant on UStream Thursday (September 2) against Manny Pacquiao. Floyd received a lot of criticism for some of the language he used when talking about the Filipino boxing champion while discussing their potential blockbuster fight. Some have suggested that Floyd was being racist when he said Manny would have to bring him "some sushi and rice" and he would cook Pacquiao "with some cats and dogs." Before apologizing, Floyd reiterated his belief that he is the best boxer in the world. "Manny Pacquiao is a good fighter," Floyd said this morning. "He truly believes that he's one of the best, but the thing I know is that I am the best. See, he's one of the best, I am the best, that's the difference. To all the Manny Pacquiao fans, stand behind him. Even when we meet up and I beat him." Floyd took time to send his condolences out to Paquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, who's son was found dead Thursday. John Arum fell more than 300 feet while climbing Storm King mountain in Washington. "I just wanna say God bless to Bob Arum and his whole family because I heard that Bob Arum's son had a bad accident. It's all love to the Arum family. I wish you guys nothing but the best," Mayweather said. "And I do wanna apologize for what happened the other night. Everyone said they thought it was a racist comment that came from me. I don't have a racist bone in my body, I love everybody. Some of my guys are Muslims, some of my guys are Jews. Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, white, it doesn't matter. It's nothing but love in my heart. If anyone was affected by what I said the other day, I apologize as a man. Forgive me for saying what I said. I was just having fun, I didn't really mean it...nothing in a bad way. So let's get on this roller coaster ride and keep riding, it's all love." Usain Bolt Wants To Play For Manchester United
Since Usain Bolt gained world-wide fame for being ridiculously fast at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he’s been able to mix in visits to his favorite club, Manchester United, his other favorite club, Real Madrid, and more between running ridiculously fast. In the past, he’s talked about playing as a “left-sided defensive midfielder” when he was in high school, but now he’s seriously talking about his future as a footballer and not just his past. “Ideally, if I was to play football, I’d sign for my favorite team — Manchester United. People say it’s not realistic but nobody has seen me play so you never know. If Alex Ferguson saw me in one of those charity matches he might think I could replace Ryan Giggs.” You might laugh at that last sentence, but considering Sir Alex just bought a player for £7 million sight unseen, picking the next Ryan Giggs out of a charity match could be possible. But according to the Guardian’s Simon Hattenstone, Bolt isn’t just spouting off to sell books: I ask about his ambitions. Ultimately, he says, he’d love to make a go of playing football professionally. He’s being deadly serious. One of the perks of being Usain Bolt is that sporting stars love to meet him, so whenever he’s travelling and there’s time, he tries to train with a top football team. Last year it was Manchester United, a few days ago it was Bayern Munich. He’s still carrying a copy of the French sporting newspaper L’Equipe, which features a spread on his football skills and praise from Bayern manager Louis van Gaal. He shows me a photo of himself with his arm wrapped round the dwarfed 6ft German forward Miroslav Klose. “If I keep myself in shape, I can definitely play football at a high level,” he says. Presumptuous? Yes. Impossible? Maybe not. His speed and celebrity would certainly get him a trial somewhere — whether he has any skills on the ball or not. All this will have to wait until at least after the 2012 Olympics, though. At which point Ryan Giggs will probably still be playing and Bolt will probably still be carrying around that copy of L’Equipe. Shook: Leandro Barbosa Breaks Andre Iguodala's Ankles!
Brandon Jennings (NBA Point Guard For The Milkwaukee Bucks) Jammin To Lady Gaga!
Sometimes doing the right thing isn’t the right thing to do. Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings dancing with his shirt off to Lady Gaga after losing a bet is a perfect example of this. Yes it’s respectable that he wanted to honor his debt, but he should’ve just upped a couple of stacks. Now this video ,instead of his 55-point game or playing in Italy, is the first thing that will come to mind when you hear Jennings’ name.. Carter beats Blake with new pb
THE excellent season of Jamaica's Nesta Carter in the 100 metres continued yesterday at the Van Damme Samsung Diamond. League in Brussell, Belgium, as he raced to personal best of 9.85 seconds finishing second to the United States' Tyson Gay. Gay won the event in 9.79 seconds. Carter, who was clocking his third sub-10 second time this season following his earlier best of 9.86 at the Nottwill meet and 9.96 seconds at the Berlin meet, once again showed his vast improvement. Carter's impressive run came in a high-class field which included three other Jamaicans in Yohan Blake, Mario Forsythe and World Junior 100 metres champion Dexter Lee, along with Antigua's Daniel Bailey, Trinidad and Tobago's Richard Thompson and the United States' Trell Kimmons. While Gay, the world leader in the event, was the favourite, it was the clash between Carter and Blake, which generated a lot of interest locally. Blake who is also in great form this season, was hoping to score the first win over his countryman and in the process earn a psychological advantage going into next year. poor start Carter once again used his explosive start to get away from the field, leading for some 80 metres before being overtaken by a slow-starting Gay, who clocked the second-fastest time of the year, following his season best and world-leading 9.78 seconds a few weeks ago. Blake, who was also off to a poor start, once again failed to get back to Carter and had to settle for third in 9.91 seconds. His training partner Bailey was fourth in 10.09 seconds. Forsythe (10.12) and Lee (10.21) in the event finished sixth and eight, respectively. World Championships representative Allodin Fothergill warmed up for the October Commonwealth Games with a third-place finish in the men's 400 metres, clocking 45.44 seconds, Costa Rica's Nery Brenes, the Senior Pan Am Games champion, clocked his second sub-45 second time of the season, winning in 44.92, ahead of Belgium's Jonathan Borlee in 45.27 seconds. Two other Jamaicans in Dorian Scott and Korene Hinds failed to sparkle at the meet. Scott had a ninth-place finish in the men's shot put with 19.20 metres, while Hinds finished ninth and last in the women's 3000 metres steeple chase in 9:54.37. Double Diamond League winner Allison Felix, who has only lost once this season, beaten in the women's 200 metres by Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown at the Adidas Diamond League meet in New York, romped to victory in the half-lap event in 22.61 seconds with countrywoman Shalonda Soloman finishing a close second in 22.70 seconds. Police investigating altercation involving Nuggets' Smith DENVER (AP) -- Police are investigating an alleged altercation between Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith and another person at the team's practice facility. Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Thursday that officers went to the facility Aug. 13 after a report of an altercation involving Smith and another player in a pickup game. The other player, whose name wasn't available, isn't in the NBA. The district attorney previously declined to pursue the complaint against Smith, but the investigation has been reopened because another witness came forward, Jackson said. "We just want to evaluate it,'' Jackson said of the new information. The Nuggets didn't immediately return a message to The Associated Press. Smith, acquired by the Nuggets in July 2006 in a trade with Chicago, spent time in Denver coach George Karl's doghouse this season as he struggled with his slumping performance and reduced playing time. He averaged 15.4 points per game. His off-court woes have included serving 24 days in a New Jersey correctional facility last year after pleading guilty to reckless driving in a car crash that killed a friend. Smith was drafted out of high school by the New Orleans Hornets in 2004. |
Krstic receives three-game suspension for role in brawl ISTANBUL (AP) -- Nenad Krstic of the Oklahoma City Thunder has been suspended for Serbia's next three games for throwing a chair during last week's brawl with Greece. Basketball's governing body said Thursday that three other players will miss two games. FIBA also fined both national federations. Serbia's Milos Teodosic is banned two games. His fight with Greece's Antonis Fotsis started the melee. Greece will be without Fotsis and Sofoklis Schortsanitis for its first two games of the world championships, which start Saturday in four cities in Turkey. FIBA had promised strong action after the brawl and says all parties have the right to an appeal
